SPLASH

FORD SPLASH CONCEPT CAR

The Splash concept car was featured in these publications when it debuted at the Detroit Auto Show in 1989. I, along with 3 other interns from The Center for Creative Studies, designed the show vehicle at the CCD (Ford’s Concept Center of Detroit). My exterior proposal was chosen for the full size car. It underwent some modifications before the final design was constructed. The initial concept had variable height lateral swing arm suspension covered in a flexible urethane that would give the appearance that the swing arms were integrated with the body of the vehicle.

This was considered not feasible at the time and the design was altered with the arms removed. The final design still reflects the spirit of a youth and activity oriented vehicle. The show car was built by Autodyne and was a full running prototype. Its features included: reversible side view mirror/fog lamps, variable hight suspension, retractable mud flaps, fiber optic tail lamps, neoprene seat covers, and a removable, windshield.
